Once again, the almighty gods Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Aphrodite and friends meet at the Olympus Arena to watch humans battle in a deadly fight. You play a mortal human to become the future demi-god at Olympus.

  • Duration: 45-60 min (including learning rules)

  • Player count: 2-4

  • Languages: Danish & English (very little text to read)

The Olympus battle arena is a tricky and treacherous place. It is a round arena in 3 rotating levels – all made of the 5 elements; Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Aether.

2-4 players enter the arena to battle against each other, the elements and the playful gods. Only one will survive and become the next mighty demi-god of Olympus.

This game is about reaching the middle of Olympus first, while also backstabbing your opponents to make sure they do not get there before you.

Each player holds hidden cards at hand. Each card can represent one of the five elements which help you move your player, or give you an ability to rotate one of the three levels. Apart from moving your own player, players can also force opponents to play or block certain cards. Therefore, players are in a constant dilemma whether to progress his/her own player or block one of the opponents. All of this while the gods tend to interfere with the game and the plans of the players too.

The rules of Playful Gods are easy to learn. The various possibilities granted by the cards combined with the unique game board mechanics makes the game hard to master.

This light semi-themed game will appeal to players who also like fairly light games like Azul, Imhotep and Kingdomino.

About the designer

This is my first board game design, but I hope it’s not my last.
I love playing board games just as much as you do, and suddenly my creative mind came up with the silly idea that I should make my own game. I hope you like it.
