Fastaval’s guests of honour

Every year, an exciting or well-known person/group is invited to Fastaval as a guest of honour to talk about their work within Fastaval-related activities, such as board games or role-playing games. Each guest of honour is different and has different approaches to role-playing, board games and game design.

Sometimes the guest of honour is a well-known, influential cultural figure with many years of work within an established institution or game, such as Mark Rein Hagen or Steve Jackson. But just as often, Fastaval also makes a point of finding lesser-known guests of honour with a new and unique perspective on games and design that can surprise and inspire participants.

At Fastaval, we want to learn and absorb others’ experiences and approaches to game design. But being a guest of honour is not just about receiving, it’s also about passing on Fastaval’s traditions and unique environment. Over the years, we have seen how several guests of honour have been deeply inspired by the Fastaval tradition, but also returned in subsequent years to contribute creatively to the role-playing and board game competitions. We are proud of the creative space that Fastaval has become over the years, and we always look forward to inviting new and exciting people to visit us at Easter.

Guest of Honour at Fastaval 2025

Nils Hintze

Nils Hintze is a Swedish author and designer with an impressive CV. He is the author of numerous award-winning tabletop role-playing games, including Vaesen, Tales from the Loop, Things from the Flood, The Electric State Roleplaying Game, and The Walking Dead Universe Roleplaying. He has also contributed to the RPGs Forbidden Lands and Twilight 2000, as well as the board game Tales from the Loop The Boardgame.
He has gained great recognition in Sweden and internationally for his RPG writing, and we are therefore very proud that he has agreed to visit Fastaval 2025 as this year’s guest of honour to talk about his writing and inspire us with his worlds!
Nils Hintze is looking forward to Fastaval 2025!
“Swedish roleplayers tend to get something dreamy in their eyes when they tell you about their experiences of Fastaval – especially those who are into games that focus on story, relationships, and human emotions, which I am. I feel privileged and happy to be invited as a guest of honor – and it also gives me a reason to finally take the train across Öresund during the easter break. Looking forward to meeting you all!”
Nils is hosting two activities at this year’s Fastaval:
– A talk about his work writing a series of award-winning tabletop role-playing games. Read more here
– A workshop on creating a setting and story, and exploring the process of writing a scenario step by step. Read more here
