Starfleet: Ready for Command is a Real-Time Wargame where players command a fleet of starships across the entire table. Form frontlines, outmaneuver your opponent, and execute strategies under the pressure of real-time.
Presentation
Duration: 30-60 minutes
Player count: 2, 4, 6, …
Language: Danish and English
Take on the role of fleet admiral and test your strategic abilities in an epic space battle!
Each round, players will simultaneously move their ships by repeating the same simple sequence of actions:
Grab a ship > Push & Rotate > Mark the ship as used
Each of these moves becomes interesting when you consider the ship’s design, line of sight, and the opportunities for both friendly and enemy ships nearby, as well as how this affects the rest of the battle.
When time runs out, the game pauses and all damage is counted, and destroyed ships are removed. Players also get some time to plan before the next round begins.
The intensity is high in Starfleet, but speed isn’t what matters—each ship may only be moved once per round anyway. The time pressure instead forces a compromise between finding the best action and not spending too long on each one.
Team play adds yet another layer of complexity, as players must now coordinate both strategy and the assembly of their individual fleets. Often, the battlefield or its objectives must be divided among teammates to maintain better oversight.
About the designer
Erik Hedebol is a student at DTU in his daily life, but he both plays and designs board games in much of his free time. Despite the countless game prototypes he has created over the years, Starfleet is the first to make it this far in the development process.
Fastaval has earned a yearly spot in Erik’s calendar since he first attended in 2024, and this year he’s especially looking forward to participating as a board game designer for the first time.
