Magic the Gathering – Draft

Want a way to play that offers a level playing field and lets you play with new cards every tournament? Then draft is for you.

Unlike constructed formats, where you arrive with a carefully constructed deck, draft and other limited formats allow you to build a deck with new cards each time.

At the start of the draft, each player opens a booster pack and takes a single card. (Don’t show the other players what you choose!) Then you give the rest of the cards to the player on your left and you receive a pack from the other side, each player then takes cards from the boosters and passes until they are empty.

Then each player opens another packet and does the same, but this time, you pass the packet to the right. After all these cards have been dealt, you do the same with the third packet, which is again passed to the left.

With the cards you have at the end, you build a deck of at least 40 cards, add basic lands, and play the tournament with those 40 cards.

You can change your deck along the way as long as you only use cards from the draft.
